Travellers, be careful about the Mount Royal Hotel

I booked a bed in a 4-bed dorm at the Mount Royal Hotel online at HostelMania at a price of $32.23. HostelMania charged me a 10% deposit/downpayment of $3.23 and a $1.00 service charge, leaving me with about $29 to pay at check-in. At least that was what I thought.
At the check-in, however, the hotel staff demanded a price of $35! So they ignored the fact that I made a downpayment with the online reservation and even tried to ask a higher price. When I complained, they reduced the price to $32, still ignoring the downpayment. Also, they assigned me a bed in an 8-bed dorm instead of the 4-bed I booked.
So, I felt pretty ripeed off, and when talking to my roommates, they also said that they had to pay a higher price than they aggreed upon when making the online reservation.

Futhermore, the toilet in the bathroom was clogged and dirty. (Own bathroom for the 8-bed dorm) At an other bathroom on the floor, the shower was dirty, too.

On the plus side:
- Reasonably quiet (I guess this depends more on the other guests)
- Towels (To my experience no standard when you stay in a hostel dorm)
- They accepted my German ID card (Personalausweis), so I would have had the option of leaving my passport at a safer place at my friend's home. (most backpackers don't have this option, though)

After all, however, I will try to avoid this so-called hotel next time I need to stay in New York City.
